About Hugsylvania
Hugsylvania started with a frustration I had with collaborating with people. I like to read terms and conditions and actually try to follow them (weird, right?). I had started to produce music and I wanted to cut my teeth into collaborating. While my DAW had built-in samples, I wanted more, and I began collecting them. Alas, many sample makers stipulated that you couldn't redistribute their samples, which means, if I were to collaborate with someone on a project I had started, I couldn't "legally" send them the samples used, I'd have to point them to where I got them and tell them to download the samples themselves. This, as you imagine, was hardly convenient. As my sample hunting continued I discovered fangates, and sample makers who required attribution when using their sounds. I had a long conversation with a friend about copyright. I found needlessly complicated EULA's. Eventually, a vision formed: what if I were to make and host public domain sounds so that anyone who used them could share them, modify them, and make them their own, without worrying about royalties, attribution, or whether they could distribute "copyrighted samples". And what if there was a centralized place for artists to freely share their experience and wisdom? I started Hugsylvania in late 2016, and since then I've had the pleasure of releasing and hosting many packs. I intend to expand into distribution sometime in summer 2017 and to keep making and hosting packs. Hugsylvania's mission is ultimately summed up in three words: Cultivate the culturescape. |
